This is one of those books that I added to my holds list at
the library after reading brief description of it, and thinking “a book about
people that love books, my kind of book”.
The book is about a mother who is going through chemo, and her son who
frequently accompanies her to the treatment.
They both have always loved books, and decide to start their own book
club. I didn’t realize the book was
non-fiction until I was two or three chapters into the book. Not that this mattered to the story, but I
thought it was interesting that I didn’t even know that.
I really enjoyed this book, and while it is about the end of
a life, I didn’t find it depressing rather inspiring. Besides it being a great story, I discovered
quite a few books that I am very interested to read. In the book, the mom keeps a list of the books
that they have read, along with a few notes that she gives the author once he
decides to write a book about their experience.
This book was a bit of an inspiration for this blog. Not that I have cancer or am going through
chemo, but I did want a place to discuss books and keep track of my thoughts
and feelings after reading them.
